High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)
As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity, but thankfully there are procedures we can use to address those concerns. One of the latest technologies is HIFU or Ultherapy. HIFU stands for High-intensity Focused Ultrasound, and is a non-invasive procedure which targets areas of the face, neck, chin, and upper chest to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; this improves overall skin elasticity and appearance by functioning just as a face lift does. Thus called non-invasive facelift.
For those who are seeking the results of a face lift (but don’t want to undergo surgery) HIFU may be the procedure for you. By using the ultrasound technology we are able to target the dermis at a precise depth which spares the epidermis untouched thus focusing on the layer of the skin where most tightening is needed. Currently, HIFU is the only non-invasive procedure that can address such deep skin layers, as the only other alternative is surgical procedure.
HIFU works essentially by stimulating the production of collagen using heat combined with ultrasound waves in order to tighten and lift loose & saggy skin to provide a more youthful look. HIFU is ranked among the top 5 non-invasive skin tightening procedures in the country.

How does HIFU work?
It utilizes a device which targets the deep layers of skin and delivers low levels of heat to the dermis in areas of concern. HIFU waves penetrate through the skin layers and stimulate collagen production, which is what provides the facial lifting results.
Is it the same thing as a facelift?
Surgical facelifts are significantly more invasive, so they will have slightly different results, but HIFU remains a close second as a non-invasive procedure that requires little to no downtime. It is a great alternative for individuals who do not want to undergo surgery, but want results similar to those of a facelift.
What does the procedure feel like?
Since HIFU consists of stimulating deep layers of your skin, it is very likely that you will feel brief tingling and a rubber band against the skin like sensations. Topical numbing is usually not required. It is important to keep in mind though, that those sensations only last while the device is applying its effects. Most often though, patients experience little to no discomfort, and our providers at Chic Derm & Aesthetics in Allen will work with you to ensure that the entire HIFU treatment experience is as comfortable as possible for you.
Are there any side effects of HIFU?
Due to the procedure there may be surface level redness, swelling, or tingling sensations, but typically patients can return to their daily routine immediately after the procedure as it has no long-term side effects.
Does it take multiple treatments?
For most people 1-2 treatments give optimal results, but additional treatments may be needed in some cases. We encourage you discuss with your provider about number of treatments recommended for your skin type. Price for full face treatment is $1350.
